Put the ignition key in the Silverado and turn it to the "On" position. But keep in mind do not power on the engine.
Find out the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC),obd 2, it is generally under the steering column and insert in the OBD 2 code reader. The Silverado's battery will power and turn on the OBD 2 code reader.
Find the arrows on the code reader and use them to scroll through the menu until you see the command item, "Read Codes." Choose this option.
Wait for several second,code scanner, the code will display on the screen, then Read the codes and write them down on a piece of paper. Disconnect the code reader and take the car and the piece of paper with the codes you just written down to your mechanic. Ask for the mechanic fix the car.
Plug the code reader back into the DLC port when you return home,obd2. Repeat the Steps above.
