Local Federal Park Reopens,pjs jacket black
On Thursday morning hundreds of thousands of federal employees went back to work, including a couple dozen at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.
"The park is open for business and I think all of us are relieved to be back at work.," said Cathy Cook, the Superintendent for the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.
She says she had to find ways to pass the time while off the job.
"I cleaned the house a little bit," said Cook, "I took walks and enjoyed the area."
Cook and 25 other furloughed park employees will get paid for the 16 days out of work.
"I would rather work for my pay," said Cook.
Now that the park is open, leaves and garbage need to be picked and maintenance is back logged.
"We're having to catch up on some of the administrative stuff that was delayed," said Cook.
Park employees weren't the only ones affected by the partial government shut down.
A 2011 study determined the park had a total economic impact of about $55 million dollars. which means during the shutdown, area restaurants, hotels, services, and the park itself lost a combined $2.4 million dollars.
